10 tips for planting aronia on balconies and terraces

We currently receive many inquiries about the correct planting of aronia on the balcony or terrace. Here you can read how to enjoy this local superfood even in the smallest space.

  1. Choose pots of sufficient size, 20 L is recommended
  2. Ceramic or clay pots are advisable. Avoid plastic pots
  3. The plants love the sun. Ensure a sunny location
  4. Avoid waterlogging in the container
  5. Please do not over-fertilize, only when necessary
  6. Bark mulch is unsuitable for aronia plants
  7. Protect the pot & root from frost in winter, e.g. with fleece, felt or styrofoam
  8. Please do NOT move your aronia plant indoors (e.g. cellar, stairwell) over winter. Lack of light, sun, fresh oxygen and weather exposure can inhibit growth the following year
  9. Please note that the aronia plant's root may outgrow the pot, and planting in the garden may be beneficial
  10. Growth in pots is often slightly slower than with open-ground planting
