Sun protection is skin protection: Here’s how to optimally prepare your skin for summer!

Whether on your home terrace, balcony, in the great outdoors, or at a distant holiday beach: the sun makes us feel more energetic, active, and even measurably boosts our mood! Find out what the sun does to your skin and how to strengthen your body’s largest organ from within – in addition to classics like sunscreen or sun cream – right here.

Summer is finally here. Sunlight is essential for our well-being, but be careful! Prolonged unprotected sun exposure can not only cause painful sunburn but also generate free radicals, which trigger oxidative stress in the body. Free radicals are suspected of damaging skin cells and attacking tissue.

Sun protection from within

Our body uses various systems to neutralise free radicals and protect cells. For these to function properly and for the body to be ready for sunbathing, an adequate intake of vital nutrients is crucial. Some vital nutrients not only help the body generate these buffer systems but also act as antioxidants themselves.

They help us cope with free radicals, e.g., from excessive sun exposure, by counteracting oxidation and neutralising free radicals. A balanced diet with dark berries, fruit, and vegetables can create a balance between free radicals and antioxidants, thus supporting the skin’s natural sun protection. In particular, vitamin C, found in most fruits, helps protect cells from oxidative stress.

The German Nutrition Society therefore recommends eating five to seven portions of berries, fruit, and vegetables daily. To optimally support your daily nutrient intake, we have developed our Cell Protection Capsules.

Organic Cell Protection Capsules with Aronia & Acerola

Aronia Zellschutzkapseln

Our organic food supplement contains aronia powder and an extract from the acerola cherry. Acerola cherry and aronia berry form the basis of the capsules. The Cell Protection Capsules are a simple addition to your daily nutrient supply, and the small screw-top jar fits in any bag or backpack – even on holiday.

The vitamin C from the acerola cherry helps protect cells from oxidative stress and increases iron absorption. It also supports collagen formation – for normal skin, bone, and blood vessel function – and contributes to a normal immune system function.

In addition to a balanced and varied diet, four capsules per day are sufficient. Our Cell Protection Capsules are not only organic-certified but also bear the neuform quality seal of Reformhaus® eG.

Sun protection from the outside

Sun protection products, in the form of lotion, cream, or spray, should be used from spring onwards, tailored to your skin type. You should preferably opt for natural cosmetics with a mineral filter.

What does the sun do to the skin?

Sunlight stimulates the production of the body’s own happy hormones, such as serotonin and vitamin D. The sunshine vitamin (vitamin D) not only contributes to normal muscle function but also helps maintain normal bones and a normal immune system function. When it comes to the effect of sunlight on the skin, a distinction is made between UVA and UVB rays.

What do UVA rays do?

They are responsible for the immediate and instant tan on the skin, which appears quickly but fades after a few hours. Since UVA rays have a longer wavelength than UVB rays, they penetrate deeper into the skin but cannot build up sun protection. In high doses, they cause sunburn and are responsible for sun-induced skin ageing.

What do UVB rays do?

UVB radiation is actually more energetic than UVA radiation but only penetrates the upper layers of the skin. Here, it thickens the cornea (light callus), which protects the skin from the sun. It also boosts vitamin D synthesis and, by rebuilding pigments, creates a long-lasting tan.

We wish you a wonderful summer and lots of fun on your next sunbathing session!
