Aronia syrup is quick to make and brings the deep red color and tart-fruity aroma of the aronia berry to every glass. The base is around 300 ml of aronia juice, which is cooked down with candied sugar, lemon, and vanilla into a smooth syrup – in about 45 minutes and without special equipment.
The easiest way to make the syrup is with our Organic aronia not-from-concentrate juice: This eliminates the need to press the berries, and one bottle is enough for two generous servings. If you have your own aronia berries in the garden, you can press the juice yourself as described below.
Diluted with mineral water, it becomes a refreshing spritzer; in winter, it’s perfect in hot tea. Served neat, it makes a delicious sauce over vanilla ice cream, quark, or pancakes. Using less candied sugar preserves the berry’s characteristic tartness. Fill the finished syrup into clean bottles while hot, seal tightly, and refrigerate after opening.
